From the Primordial Soup [Evogame]

Post by memebird » Mon Feb 11, 2019 1:39 am

From the Primordial Soup
An evolution game, different from the rest here

The goal is to take the starter organisms and evolve them. Building a diverse and unique ecosystem from just those 3 starting organisms.
((Note, this game is heavily based off of the game "Speculus Evolution" from the old version of the Spec Evo forum, and many of the rules are kept the same as there is no need to change them. The map and starter species are my own design however.))

Rules
- Changes to a species should be gradual, this is especially true for changes to diet, senses, reproduction, or locomotion
- Species can only spread to adjacent habitats/locations with similar or somewhat similar conditions
- Species can only grow or shrink by a factor of two (meaning their size can be multiplied or divided by two). Exceptions may be granted for specific conditions such as abyssal gigantism
- A Species cannot be evolved until the Epoch after they were created.
- yes, every species needs an image, do not worry about artistic skill- just look at the starter species!
- this is an open game, anyone can hop in at any time. I am the GM as of now.
- If a zone has no organisms living in it, that means it is barren, plants must move there before animals can
- let me know ASAP if you have any questions, or feel anything needs to be clarified

Species BIO format
This is the format that species should be entered in. When creating the scientific name, keep in mind how different your species is from the earliest member in the genus. If your species is only a little different, like in color, size, simple features, or habitat, then it should probably go in the same genus. If there is a major difference, like body shape, method of locomotion, etc, then consider placing it in a new genus.

Periods and Epochs
Periods and Epochs are how the passage of time is tracked.
Each epoch lasts for one generation, and will end once 15 species have been created in that epoch (The number of species per epoch will eventually increase, this will be noted at the start of an epoch). There are 4 epochs to a period. At the end of each period, there will be an extinction event where some species will go extinct. At the end of each period there will also be a new map.
World conditions (temperature, etc) are slightly different each epoch, and VERY different each period.

Starting Species
The 3 first organisms on this nameless planet to become multi-cellular. They will hopefully be the spark of a lengthy and beautiful natural history

Bublalga (Simplaherba virdbulla)
Bublalga are extremely simple plants, being little more than a grouping of algae-like organisms arranged in a hollow, bubble-like formation. Bublalga are 5 millimeters tall and wide, and grow in small clusters at the sandy bottom of shallow waters. They reproduce asexually by budding, with new plants attached to their parents, pieces of Bublalga can also grow into new individuals in ideal conditions.
Image

Noodli (Parvermis ligula)
Noodli are wormlike, herbivorous animals. They feed on Bublalga by poking a hole in them with their flexible tongue, and then using the tongue to pull small chunks of the plant into their digestive system. Noodli are 8 millimeters long, and 2 millimeters thick. Noodli reproduce asexually by laying dozens of eggs, which hatch into juvenile Noodli. Noodli can burrow or swim, and possess a small paddle in order to help with swimming.
Image

Bunstar (Symmetriarum stella
Bunstar are omnivorous, slow moving animals that vaguely resemble starfish to the naked eye. They are indiscriminate feeders, and simply eat whatever life they crawl on top of- be it a patch of Bubalga, a Noodli or their eggs, or a smaller individual of their own kind. Bunstar are able to 'smell' by the colored patches on their arms, and use this ability in order to crawl in the direction of food. Bunstar reproduce asexually by division. Bunstar are 7 millimeters in diameter and 3 millimeters tall.

All of these starting organisms are only found in Zone 1

Map: Epoch 1: Dawn Period

What the Zones are:
Zone 1 is calm and shallow water, especially rich in nutrients, all of the starter species live here
Zones 2 - 5 are somewhat deeper and less calm than Zone 1, but are overall still pretty much ideal for life
Zones 6, 8, an 9 are the slopes leading to deep water, there is enough light for plant life to exist, at the floor here, albeit barely.
Zone 7 is the sheer cliff going straight down to the abyssal trench below, conditions are similar to 6, 8, and 9, but with a steep slope rather than a gentle one
Zone 10 (both E and W), is the deep and open ocean, low in nutrients, and too dark for plants to grow on the bottom, the surface however is full of light
Zone 11 is a deep trench, pitch black beyond a certain depth, and cold too. Higher up conditions are same as Zone 10
Zone 12 is the shallows around a smaller landmass, not as rich as Zone 1, but definitely better conditions than Zone 10
Zones 13 - 17 are small patches of land, seeing as all current life is simple and aquatic, and these places utterly hot and barren, it will take time for life to get here
Conditions: Temperature is warm worldwide, and there are a lot of nutrients for plants and filter feeders to use.

For the sake of example, i'll create the first evolved species

____________________________________________________________________________________

Image
Common Name: Talalga
Binomial Name: Simplaherba longus
Creator: memebird
Ancestor: Bublalga
Size: 7 millimeters tall, 4 millimeters wide
Diet: photosynthesis
Habitat: all of Zone 1, as well as the edges of Zones 2- 5, as small colonies growing on sand or rocks
Reproduction: asexually by budding, with new plants attached to their parents, pieces of Talalga can also grow into new individuals in ideal conditions.
Description: Bublalga tends to crowd around itself, leading individuals to grow taller and taller in order to receive enough light. Eventually these taller ones were different enough to be considered their own species. Talalga also differs in that it is somewhat tougher, giving Noodli that attempt to eat it a harder time tearing it apart.

Common Name: Beaky
Binomal Name: Parvermis oralocalcus
Creator: Alexcat989
Ancestor: Noodli
Size: 10 mm long, 3 mm thick at widest
Diet: Omnivorous siding on Carnivorous
Habitat: Zone 1
Reproduction: Parthanogenic by laying eggs
Description: Parvermis oralocalcus is an omnivorous nektonic worm like animal with a primitive calcite beak. This beak can cut through Talalga and flesh allowing them to eat a lot more than their ancestor could. They have a linear digestive system that ends in a cloaca. They have a large horizontally flattened fin at the end of their post anal tail making them powerful swimmers.

Common Name: Armostars
Binomial Name: Armistesta Cochlea
Creator: Burger Cat
Ancestor: Bunstar
Size: 4 mm long, 5 mm wide
Diet: Omnivoros that prefer on decaying matter
Habitat: Zone 1, Zone 2-5 by feeding on decaying matter from talalga
Reproduction: asexually by budding, by producing new armostars from the back.
Description: The Armostars are armored organisms that have a segmented exoskeleton shell that is made out of chitin that surround the armostar frontal parts of the body, with the arm in the back of the armostar being unarmored. The arm of the armostar like their ancestors are used to smell around for decaying matter and having a small mouth hole in the bottom of the arm.

Image: Parvermis Toxititus
Common Name: Singular: Stringus | Plural: Stringi
Binomial Name: Parvermis Toxititus
Creator: Guineapig004
Ancestor: Parvermis Ligula
Size: 8 millimeters long, and 2 millimeters thick.
Diet: Herbivorous
Habitat: Zone 1
Reproduction: Asexual
Description: The Stringus has improved upon the digestive capabilities of its predecessor, the Noodli. It developed an organ that produces an acidic mixture of hydrogen sulfide and coagulants. It ejects it into the Bublaga, as well as similar species, in order to dissolve larger portions of the plant. In order to improve the uses of their acidic fluids, Stringi develop a limited amount of barbells that contain it. Like a bee stinger, they break off into the unfortunate victim, allowing time for the fluids to be injected.

Edit: Oops, forgot the PH of sulfur, changed to hydrogen sulfide.

Sulphur ions are basic not acidic as they remove hydrogen ions from the water. If you said Hydrogen Sulphide then you would be good.

I might have plans on my next organism dealing with a Bublalga that have developed sexual reproduction and having a gas bladder if that is fine to be created?
Would it be in the same genus or a whole new genus with the gas bladder?
But I might bring out my second organism that I been building.

Common name: Pick-Nose Plural: Pick-Noses
Binomial name: Parvermis Hastanasus
Creator: Burger Cat
Ancestor: Noodli
Size: 8 mm long, 4 mm wide
Diet: Omnivorous siding on Carnivorous
Habitat: Zone 1, Zone 2-5 by hunting down younger armostars that don't have a harden shell and
talalga.
Reproduction: Asexual
Description: The pick-noses are nektonic worm-like organisms that have favor more of a predatory lifestyle that target species like the bunstars and armostars. Pick-nose have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria inside of their digestive system to break down meat more efficiently. The pick-nose more noticeable features is the large bony spike that is coming out of their facial region and this spike is used to pierce through the bodies of their prey "the spike can pierce through the talalga body" and to suck up the organism meat and bodily fluids by using their tongue. The pick-noses also have a line of electrocepters to detect the movements of prey and predators.

I'm not gonna lie, I usually am the one to create a plant in this brand of evo game that floats by means of a gas bladder, i'd like to see someone else's take on that.
As for sexual reproduction, maybe not full-on that so quickly, but maybe on it's way there
regardless of how it reproduces, the gas bladder absolutely is enough to put it in it's own genus.
