Vote 1- Develop poison glands around the lizard body.
Vote 2- Develop customized camouflage with their eggs similar to how quail eggs are like.
Edit: I forgot that these lizards were ectothermic, so just going to continue with my original plan.

Develop the dorsal processes of the vertebrae (or an extension of them if the dorsal processes are part of the interlocking mechanism) into short, sharp (yet sturdy) external spines. Going to put both votes into this.

I apologize for the radio silence everyone, but a lot of stuff piled up over the holidays and it only got worse when school started back up. I don't know if I can continue the game but for now it's on indefinite hiatus...
