Phoenix Point (By the guy who made the original Xcom)

Know about another game or simulation that's worth sharing or discussing? The gaming industry is at it's best when it's a great big incestual slurry of crosslinks and recommendations, so tell us about it here!

Phoenix Point (By the guy who made the original Xcom)

Post by Tiberius » Sat Jun 17, 2017 11:56 pm

Just saw this, and it seems like they did a good job of taking the best parts from both xcoms and throwing in some really interesting as well. In particular there's a thing where if you're tearing through a certain type of unit then the aliens will take it off the production and start throwing tweaked versions at you until they find a new version that works. It's really early, so it still might divebomb into the ground but so far it looks pretty good.

EDIT oh yeah, I forgot about the other thing that seemed really neat. At the start of the game the aliens control the ocean so all of their soldiers and their tweaks will be sea creature related, but as the game goes on and they expand they'll start using terrestrial animal inspired parts.

This seems exactly how I would want a terraformars game to go basically like a better adaptation of the earth arc, but in video game form.

I assume you get to play as the alien fish people and kick those squishy pathetic human faces in like a sledgehammer on a partially rotten watermelon?.

But before long the humans reverse engineer your biotechnology and your soon fighting against half whale half human super soldiers for control of the planet?

EDIT:Also seems to have a nice tint of Junji ito and H.P lovecraft thrown into that delicious pot, no?

You play as the phoenix project not the lovecraftian alien fungus.

As for human technology, there are three factions. New Jericho, which is a pseudo-fascist organisation that embraces all humans except for mutants who must be purged. They have the most conventional military tech. The Disciplines of Anu, who believe the alien plague is a curse and gift from god for mankind's ape form is inherently tainted and to ascend from it one must mutant themself or something. They give you controlled mutations. Finally there is synderion which is a decentralised socialist state which the most sci fi tech, due to being founded by Russian socialist anarchist scientists.

Actually i'm pretty sure the last faction is also against remaining human, it's just that their method is to turn people into cyborgs to prevent them from mutating in the first place, afterall if you have little to no flesh to infect you'll be safer!

at least that's what some of the concept art made me think.

Synderion or New Jericho? Synderion isn't the fanatically anti mutant faction and want to coexist. New Jericho's fasiscm revoleves around being human, considering the mutations to be a perversion and cybernetic prosthetics to be closer to human form.
