You mentioned around 3:50 - 3:55 that you couldn't easily demonstrate an overpopulation issue while keeping your population cap low.
What I like to do is increase water level. Being that the creatures can't swim yet, they will be forced onto less and less land. Just don't increase water level too quickly or else you'll simply end up killing them all.

Maybe a dev will read this,
When the water level rises it is fairly fast.
But when I manually decrease it, it seems to take forever, I have to zoom all the way in to even notice it is decreasing.
