Re: The Species ALRE Roadmap

Do the colours have any meaning or are they just to differentiate "feature clusters"? This. Cyan is gameplay, green is world, yellow is creature features and red is creature interaction. I'm wondering if "Calls" could be linked to "Hearing"; more generally, IIRC, most interactions between creatures...

Re: The Species ALRE Roadmap

Once you get back to adding features, I recommend focusing on social behavior, shoals and swarms, and maybe camouflage. I think there just aren't enough ways for carnivores to get started, with prey items all being similar in size to the predator and carcasses being relatively rare. Using much slowe...

Re: Rovers

Currently planned: a "Rover Upgrade" progression path. The initial rovers will be land-bound. The player will be able to improve individual rovers via a customization interface as they make progress in the game and gradually unlock upgrades. Motility will be one of the upgrade categories, containin...

Temperature Weirdness

-I've got temperature variation set to flat and temperature set to 21C. The temperature is stable at 11C. -Temperature can sometimes get stuck at a specific value. Changing it causes the environment to respond, but not the creatures or thermometer. This can result in such odd behavior as creatures c...

Re: The Species ALRE Roadmap

Uhh... Good luck on shoals/swarms... The plan for shoals and swarms is to make clusters of "tiny creatures" that move around as a single entity. They will be non-evolving because they're too small to really see and too reliant on r-select reproduction to really matter individually. In other words, ...

Re: Odd biome delineation related to water level

My theory is that creatures have grazed freshwater biomes enough to drop fertility to terrestrial level, allowing pines to grow. If correct, in oceanic maps, creatures foolish or desperate enough to lick salt flats for subsistence could generate deep sea biomes... It depends on how the "water level...

Re: Dietary Chemistry Design

That being said, I feel like lipogenesis needs to be included so that lipids can be properly used as energy storage (and insulating protective tissue?)(well, if the ability is evolved of course). They have to come from somewhere, after all. ... lipogenesis... "Lipogenesis is the process by which ac...
