I feel like membranes should be a "limb" property. This was you can have flying squirrels and other gliders as transitional before their hands change. A membrane limb would apply it's setting to hands/feet/body as well. For feathers certain covers (mostly feathers) would have some sort of aerodynami...

Well animals are about 1/3 as efficient as they used to be. My best Species machine did up to 2350 or so before hitting major lag. Now it's more like 800. I also like the compact aboveground facility combined with an increase in the default world size in future versions. At the current scale Species' biome patches are freaking tiny. I guess I don't quite understand what's being proposed. You could code it so that limbs that are within a certain boundary in shape space, can 'click' over by a mutation towards a new wing or fin with similar shape. Analogous to mutation maps, but a mutation that flips you from one map to another. T...

As mentioned in the swimming thread swimming and flying are probably variations of one system. I'd like to see individual parts on the mutation map for this simply because the engine is already doing a lot of deforms on a unknown model for animations, scaling, etc. Squishing limbs flat just doesn't ...
